FAILURE: AN UPDATE
At long last this project, the simulations and models can be packaged up and archived. Took more than five years of picking up and slamming down but we finally made it. Completely re-rendered some of the simulations and (dead horse) switching between CUDA and Metal. Triumph and failure.
Hilariously enough the final hurdle was adding sound to this fucking thing. The sound for this took many forms over the years, I will spare the boring details. In the final days I swore I wouldn’t do the same as thissssssss…
When in doubt, go look for some weird, creepy ephemera. I originally had a whole piece built around Kanye and Elon talking to each other from a decade ago but that was stupid. I scoured the internet for failed // banned Disney pieces. I always had the idea that the red balloon was sad and solo and emo and the Mickeys were joyfully oblivious. With that mental manifestation the universe bestowed upon me this gem!
Long story short, made plenty of feedback loops that fucked itself up and voila. The left over POV shot never had a home but wanted to let its light shine. This way the two pieces would loop on IG as well.
I keyframed swells to match with the imperfections of the “camera” moves. The amateurly added reverb on the tracks let the swells retain some echo which gave it some texture.
I am too lazy to write about the film grain and // or EXR puzzlematte on this one. You can use your imagination as to which channel I solo’d and cranked on this one. Snark aside, I am thrilled to see this one out in the world.
